We already know that Xiaomi has expanded its flagship lineup with the launch of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, two smartphones that feature distinctive hardware and accessories designed to enhance the user experience. One of the most notable additions is an official gaming case that adds physical buttons and transforms the devices into handheld consoles reminiscent of classic portable systems such as the Game Boy.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro is equipped with a 6.3-inch front display, while the larger 17 Pro Max comes with a 6.8-inch panel and a larger 7,500 mAh battery, compared to the 6,300 mAh unit in the Pro model. Both versions share a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, ensuring top-tier performance. They also support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, maintaining Xiaomi’s focus on fast-charging capabilities.
A distinctive feature of these models is the 2.66-inch MiEnjoy secondary display on the back. Positioned next to the camera module, this screen can show notifications, control media playback, manage calls, and even handle certain camera functions.
Gaming Case Accessory
The new gaming case is designed specifically for the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Retailing in China for 299 yuan (about $40 USD), it is marketed as a plug-and-play accessory, requiring no complicated setup. Once attached, it provides physical control buttons similar to those found on retro handheld gaming devices, effectively turning the smartphone into a portable gaming console.
The case connects via Bluetooth and includes a built-in 200 mAh independent battery. Xiaomi states that the accessory can last up to 40 days on a single charge. Importantly, the smartphone does not need to be removed from the case for recharging, although using the accessory disables the device’s wireless charging feature.
Despite their advanced specifications, Xiaomi has indicated that the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will remain exclusive to the Chinese market. Only the 17 and 17 Ultra models are expected to see a global release. This means international consumers interested in the Game Boy-style case may need to look at import options rather than waiting for official distribution outside China.
