Vivo has officially introduced the Y500 5G, its latest entry-level to mid-range smartphone, focusing on durability and an exceptionally large battery. The device debuted in China with a balanced set of features aimed at consumers seeking reliability and long-lasting power.
The Vivo Y500 5G features a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2392 × 1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the company has not disclosed peak brightness levels, Vivo states that the panel ensures good readability in direct sunlight. Accompanying the display is a stereo sound system designed to deliver clear audio for multimedia use.
In terms of performance, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, supported by 8GB or 12GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage options ranging from 128GB to 512GB. This configuration is expected to provide sufficient performance for everyday tasks and moderate gaming.
The phone emphasizes durability, with IP69 certification offering protection against dust, high-pressure water jets, and hot water exposure. Vivo also highlights enhanced resilience against drops and scratches, making the device more suitable for outdoor and demanding conditions.
The camera system is modest, featuring a 50MP main rear sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and an 8MP front camera for selfies. As with many entry-level devices, Vivo integrates AI-based enhancements to improve photography results, though the overall setup remains basic compared to premium models.
The standout feature of the Y500 5G is its 8,200mAh battery, a capacity usually reserved for tablets. Combined with the efficient hardware, this battery promises extended use on a single charge. Additionally, the phone supports 90W fast charging, ensuring significantly reduced charging times despite the massive capacity.
Connectivity options include 5G support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. On the software side, the Y500 5G ships with Android 15 running Vivo’s OriginOS 5. The company has not yet confirmed details regarding the update policy for this model.
Availability and Price
The device is available in blue, purple, and black color options. Pricing in China is set at approximately $190 for the 8GB/128GB version, $220 for the 8GB/256GB model, $250 for the 12GB/256GB variant, and $275 for the 12GB/512GB option. Vivo has not confirmed international availability, but broader release plans are expected.
