If you love German Chocolate Cake you will want to run to the kitchen and make these brownies!

Why You Will Love These German Chocolate Brownies
If you love German Chocolate Cake, you will love these! These delicious brownies start with a brownie mix, which makes them so easy to make. Allowing the brownies to cool before you add the frosting is the longest part of this process. Also these are made in a 9X9 and that is perfect for a small gathering. These are a simple way to enjoy a wonderful dessert.
What brownie mix do you use? Do you have to use a Mix?
We use a Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix, and it works so well with this recipe. You can use any brownie mix you like, but we like the fudge; it gives it a deeper chocolate flavor.
No, you absolutely don’t have to use a mix! You would want to use a brownie recipe that will work in a 9X9.
Can you use milk in the frosting?
Yes, make it with evaporated milk, but you can use regular milk too. The evaporated milk is our go-to for convenience, too; it keeps well on the shelf!

German Chocolate Brownies
If you love German Chocolate Cake you will want to run to the kitchen to make these brownies!
- 1 Brownie Mix + Ingredients needed to make brownies We use Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix
- 2/3 cup of evaporated milk can use regular milk
- 2 egg yolks
- 2/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons butter sliced so it will melt faster
- 1 cup of pecans chopped
- 1 2/3 cups sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
-
Prepare brownie mix according to package directions using a 9X9 pan. I baked these for 31 minutes, you will need to check them, as all ovens vary. Let cool completely, then add frosting.
-
In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, egg yolks, brown sugar, salt and butter. Bring to a low simmer, continuing to stir. I used a whisk and it worked well. Once all the ingredients are combined, let simmer for 4-5 minutes until it starts to thicken. Stirring often. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans.
-
Spread frosting over cooled brownies. Let sit up for a few hours. Serve and enjoy.
We put ours in the fridge to set up. Serving size will depend on how big you cut the brownies.
